intentional procrastination work Jan 03, 2023

We are starting a brand new year! Many people will start this new year with a list of things they are excited about doing and accomplishing. I have my list as well. What will it take for you to truly experience all you desire? One thing I know you are going to have to do is break ties with procrastination.

I have truly had my fair share of battles with procrastination. It can be a difficult habit to break. Yes, it is a habit. Because it is a habit, you can be intentional about doing things to break it. Let's make the decision that in this year we are completely breaking ties with the habit of procrastination.

Here are some strategies to implement as you are on this journey:

  1. Identify the underlying cause of your procrastination. Are you feeling overwhelmed or uncertain about how to complete a task? Do you lack motivation or have difficulty focusing? Understanding the root cause of your procrastination can help you find a solution.

  2. Set specific and achievable goals. Instead of simply stating that you want to "get more work done," try setting specific goals that are measurable and achievable. This will help you stay motivated and track your progress.

  3. Make a plan. Break your goals down into smaller tasks and create a schedule or to-do list to help you stay on track.

  4. Eliminate distractions. Identify and eliminate distractions that may be hindering your productivity, such as social media, emails, or unnecessary notifications.

  5. Find accountability. Consider finding a friend, colleague, or mentor to hold you accountable for meeting your goals. Having someone to check in with can help keep you motivated and on track.

  6. Take breaks. It's important to take breaks and give yourself time to rest and recharge. This can help you maintain focus and avoid burnout.

  7. Reward yourself. Celebrate your achievements and reward yourself for completing tasks and meeting goals. This can help you stay motivated and encourage you to continue making progress.

Remember, these are strategies for your journey. it takes time and effort to overcome procrastination. However, with practice and perseverance, you can improve your productivity and break ties with procrastination.
