Help! I Struggle with Time Management - Part 1

time time management May 24, 2022

Time is one of the most valuable resources you have. It's a resource that we spend everyday without any opportunity to make more of it. It's a resource that's a gift from God. We all have been given the gift of time. We have been given the same 24 hours in a day. It equates to 168 hours in a week.

I am a firm believer that time is not meant to stress us out. Yet, because people mis-manage time they often feel a sense of overwhelm, stress, or a feeling of not having enough time. Because time is a gift from God, that means it's good. Every gift from God is good.

God does not operate inside of time but He plucked us out of eternity and put us here inside of this block of time on purpose. How are we stewarding it? This is a question that we must answer. Remember, time is currency. What you are and what you become and the success of your business is directly connected to how you use your time.

This blog is a 2 part series where we are going to unpack ways people mis-manage their time. The purpose of this is not to beat yourself up. This is an opportunity to evaluate how you are stewarding your time so you can take steps toward being a better steward.

Ecclesiastes 8:6 (NIV) - "For there is a proper time and procedure for every matter, though a person may be weighed down by misery."

This verse reminds me that no matter what is going on around me and no matter what I am feeling, I still am responsible for how I use my time.

What are some ways people mis-manage their time?

Some people mismanage their time because they are all about success. They feel like their success is directly connected by the number of things they accomplish. People who are all about success know that people can depend on them. They are the go-to person. However, they have a tough time saying no and they can get overwhelmed with all the tasks they have committed to doing. If this describes you, it is really important that you set boundaries and learn to say "No."

Others may mis-manage their time because they are 'free-flowing'. They feel that they will get things done 'when' they have time. These individuals are great at seeing the big picture, but they miss deadlines or don't finish tasks because they get easily distracted. If this describes you, be intentional about setting deadlines. Another thing you can do is use alarms to help you stay on track.

Becoming a better steward of your time DOES take work. The work begins by taking an honest look at where you are and how you are currently stewarding your time. Then you must make the commitment to taking the necessary steps for change.

Wherever you are on this journey, let me encourage you. YOU CAN DO IT! Being a better steward of your time is one of the best things you can do in order to fulfill your kingdom assignment. :)
