Help! I Struggle with Time Management - Part 2

productivity time management May 31, 2022

We started a conversation last week about time management. We talked about how time is one of the most valuable resources you have. It's a resource that we spend every day without any opportunity to make more of it. It's a resource that is a gift from God. We all have been given the gift of time. We have been given the same 24 hours in a day which equates to 168 hours in a week.

The challenge is that many people mis-manage their time. Last week we began evaluating how we are stewarding our time. We wanted to avoid mis-managing our time because we are all about success or because we are "free-flowing". Our foundational verse is:

Ecclesiastes 8:6 (NIV) - "For there is a proper time and procedure for every matter, though a person may be weighed down by misery."

This verse reminds us that no matter what is going on around us and no matter what we are feeling, we are still responsible for how we use our time.

Let's continue this conversation. What are some other ways people mis-manage their time?

Some people mis-manage their time because everything is urgent. They consider everything that comes to them a top priority. They are great problem solvers and are great at thinking quick on their feet. But the problem with this is that they are easily stressed and have difficulty prioritizing. If this describes you, it is important that you utilize time blocking and visual reminders, like notifications.

Another reason some people mis-manage their time is because they are dealing with perfectionism. They set extremely high standards for themselves, and their work must be produced with high quality. They are detail-oriented, and they produce with much-needed excellence. Unfortunately, these individuals struggle with efficiency, get tunnel vision, and it's hard for them to see what's most important. If this describes you, I want to encourage you to utilize a planner to help you focus on the big picture.

Now, as I reflect on what we have unpacked today and last week here on the blog, I want to remind you that becoming a better steward of your time DOES take work. But it is WORTH the work!

I want you to ask yourself: What is the ONE thing you can do TODAY to start your journey of stewarding your time? Wherever you are on this journey, take one step today. YOU GOT THIS! You have a kingdom assignment and it's time to walk in it. Blessings! :)
