It's time to GO LIVE!

I can remember the first time I committed to going LIVE for my business. I use the word 'committed' very intentionally because I DID NOT want to do it. I had to commit to it, in spite of how I felt about it. So, I committed to going LIVE every single day for a year. Yes, even on weekends and holidays.

Now, I am not saying that is what YOU have to do. I'm just sharing my journey of conquering my fear of going LIVE. For me, going LIVE daily was necessary. I believed that the more I went LIVE, the more confident I would become. I was right! Now, going LIVE is something I don't just do, but I actually enjoy it. I love getting to engage with my audience and it really has created a way for me to connect with them.

If you are still apprehensive about going LIVE, I want to share some tips with you today:

  1. Start where you are: This means that it is ok to start small. You can begin by recording short videos for yourself or a trusted friend, and gradually increase the length of the video as you become more comfortable. You can then move to sharing those videos with your audience. Zechariah 4:10 (NLT) says, "Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” (The seven lamps represent the eyes of the Lord that search all around the world."

  2. Plan and practice: I always say that preparation time is never wasted time. Plan out what you want to say and then rehearse it. Practicing in front of a mirror or recording yourself can help you identify areas where you can improve. It was very hard watching myself on video at first. But, over time, I became more and more comfortable. Proverbs 16:3 (ESV) says, "Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established."

  3. Know your audience: Think about who will be watching your video and what they want to see and hear. This can help you tailor your message and feel more confident that you are providing value. When I go LIVE, my goal is to always help the people that God assigned to me. I pray about what they need in this part of their journey and strive to help them take steps forward. I lean on God's wisdom to help me with this. James 1:5 (NLT) says, "If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking."

  4. Focus on your message: Instead of worrying about how you look or sound on camera, focus on the content of your message. If you believe in what you are saying, it will come across as authentic and engaging. This tip is for all my people who think that have to be perfect. I had to embrace imperfection. It is normal to make mistakes, stumble over your words, or have technical issues. Instead of letting these mistakes derail your confidence, embrace them as part of the process and use them as an opportunity to learn and improve. I have had my own share of hiccups while going LIVE, but people understand and my audience is always so supportive. On those days that I mess up, I just remind myself that I am called to this. Ephesians 2:10 (TPT) says, "We have become his poetry, a re-created people that will fulfill the destiny he has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it!"

  5. Get support: One of my core values is community. It is very important that you surround yourself with people who encourage and support you. This can include friends, family, a coach, or mentor who can provide feedback and help you build your confidence. My community is everything. Proverbs 27:17 (NLT) says, "As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend."

Making the decision to commit to LIVE video can be a lot for some. However, with consistent practice and preparation, it is possible to build confidence and really utilize LIVE video to grow your business and/or ministry. I believe that by implementing these tips, you will become more comfortable and confident on live video.
