Kick Worry Out

Sep 23, 2019

Worry is something that can try to attach itself to each of us. No one is exempt. However, we don't have to accept the worry. We can make the quality decision that we are not going to worry.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these... Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:25-29, 34 NIV)

This is Jesus telling us that worrying is not profitable. It doesn't help our situation one bit. But, worry CAN rob us of our peace.

Here are some practical things you can do to deal with worry:

1. Worry about nothing. Each day should be lived to it's fullest. When we live today worrying about tomorrow, it prevents us from enjoying today. Yes, things in life will come up against us. But, worrying is not going to change anything about any situation.

2. Pray about everything. When something comes up that tries to worry you, talk to God about it. He cares for you and knows how to take care of you. Give Him all your cares and worries.

3. Think about the right things. Your life is definitely shaped by your thoughts. It is very beneficial to us to think about what we are thinking about. When thoughts come up that do not line up with God's Word, take those thoughts captive. Yes, arrest the thoughts and do not let them take residence in your mind.

4. Be Content When you take the stance that Christ is enough for you, it changes your perspective on things. When we recognized how blessed we truly are, we can see that some of the things we worry about won't matter much 5, 10, 20 years from now.

5. Trust God for all things. When we worry, it is because we are looking at natural circumstances through the lens of our natural ability. Living a life that is worry free is living a life in total trust of who God is and in His ability to come through for you.
