My Ram

Yesterday, a pencil became my ram.

First, let me give you some background knowledge. Yesterday morning I was struggling, emotionally. I have been believing God for something pretty substantial and yesterday morning the enemy was wearing me out with thoughts of fear, doubt, and worry. He was planting seeds of, "Aren't you tired of believing for this? What if it never happens?." I mean, I was struggling. In my heart, I knew the situation I was believing for would work out. Even my mind was OK. I knew God loved me and that He would take care of me. But, my emotions were all over the place. Have you ever have one of those days when you're like, "Please, don't let anyone mess with me today?" That was me. I felt so fragile and knew I couldn't handle much that day.

Fast forward to yesterday after school. The kids and I got home and I reminded my son Kye to get out his spelling homework. He asked for a pencil and I didn't have one. I had somewhere to be that evening so I rushed home from work to cook, leaving my pencils at work. I asked my girls if they had a pencil. No, they didn't have a pencil. I searched and found this beat up, barely sharpened pencil with no eraser. I told him to use it the best he could. Well, low and behold, he wrote the first spelling word and wrote a b instead of a d. He told me he needed an eraser. I literally was annoyed because he needed an eraser (just keeping it real). I was already in a rush to cook dinner, I didn't have an eraser, and he needed to be more careful when doing his homework. I let out a big sigh and headed to look for another pencil or eraser (still annoyed by the way).

As I took one step away from the stove and toward the counter, I spotted a nice sharpened pencil with a brand new eraser sitting next to a piece of mail on the counter top. My eyes lit up as I grabbed it. I told Kye I had found a pencil and handed it to him. I said, "Praise God Kye, I found a pencil. Use this."

As I walked away from the counter, the Lord immediately reminded me of the story of Abraham finding the ram in the bush. If you don't know the story, God ask Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac. This was a big deal. This was his only son whom he loved so much. This was the son that was promised to him even in his old age. But Abraham, in obedience, went to sacrifice him. The scripture tells us in Genesis chapter 22, that Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice and at that moment an angel called out to him to stop. Verse 13 says, "Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son" (NLT)

The Lord spoke to my heart: just like He provided the ram for Abraham and just like he provided the pencil for Kye, He would provide me with exactly what I needed too. And just like that, the peace of God flooded my heart. I knew that the substantial thing I'm believing for is not too hard for God. The situation is in God's hands. I was reminded that GOD WILL PROVIDE!

I want to encourage you today that God knows your situation. He desires you to trust Him with it because HE WILL PROVIDE. He is a good shepherd and has a good plan for your life. No matter what your circumstances look like, our God is able to work it on your behalf. It is not always easy, but remember that the Lord, your God, is with you wherever you go.
