The Power of Prayer - Part 1

prayer Aug 06, 2021

Prayer is the way we communicate with God and it is so powerful. This month, the LIVE LOVE LEAD Community is taking a deep dive into prayer. Our foundational verse this month is:

Philippians 4:6-7 (ESV) - "do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

The enemy wants us to worry. But today we are resisting worry and positioning ourselves to be in faith. We are being intentional about having a posture of prayer. When problems arise, God does not ask us to fix the problem. He just wants us to lean on Him and follow what He tells us.

Sometimes we get in the way. It's time to get out of the way and let God be God. He is taking care if it. He is taking care of us!

Why do we worry sometimes?

I believe that moments of uncertainty can open up a door for worry to creep in. It's important for us to remember that in moments of uncertainty, we do not have to know eveything as long as we stay connected to the One who knows.

Jeremiah 33:3 (ESV) - "Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known."

We can ask God when we don't know something. He shows us things. It may not be the 100 steps, but He will show us the next step. We have to trust that God will reveal things to us when we need to know them.

So what's our action step?

Colossians 4:2 (ESV) - "Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving."

In the moments when we want to worry, we can start giving thanks. Prayer and thanksgiving go hand in hand. If the enemy wants you to worry, just start thanking God. Thank God for who He is, His love for you, His wisdom, His faithfulness, His mercy, and for anything else that comes to mind.

When you start thanking God, you are pushing worry off. Your focus gets off of the size of your problem, and gets it on the size of your God.

Luke 18:1 (ESV) - "And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart."

Be encouraged today. No matter what is going on, don't lose heart. Pray. God's got it!
