Protect Your Faith

We are living in a time in history that we will never forget. As we navigate through uncharted waters, keeping our faith in God and in His goodness is vital.

I want to take just a moment to encourage you to protect your faith.

There are five things you can do DAILY to protect your faith.

1) Read the Word - When we spend time in God's Word, it builds our faith. In times that are difficult, reading God's Word protects our faith. Our faith is founded on the Word of God and we need to keep feeding ourselves the truth of His Word. The Word of God equips us to live a life of faith and do the things that God has called us to do.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 New International Version (NIV)
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2) Speak the Word - There is a lot of power in our words. As we are going through challenges, it is important for us to speak truth. We do not deny facts, but we recognize the power in speaking truth.

Proverbs 18:21 (NIV)
21 The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

3) Worship - There is something sweet that happens when we open our mouths and sing praises to our God. But worship doesn't stop there. Worship is surrendering ourselves to the Lord. It means keeping our heart open to what God has for us to do. During difficult moments of our lives, we must lean even more into what God wants us to do. When we live our lives in obedience to what God says, it is an act of worship.

Psalm 147 (NIV)
Praise the Lord. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him!

Romans 12:1 New Living Translation (NLT)
12 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.

4) Journal - Some people like to journal and some do not enjoy it. However, I can not express enough how journaling has helped me in my own life. I think it is a practice that everyone should do in some capacity. The bible tells us to write the vision down. I believe that as you spend time in prayer and God speaks to you, you should write it down. Writing down truths from God's Words and things that God speaks to your heart keeps it in front of you.

Habakkuk 2:2 English Standard Version (ESV)
And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.

Jeremiah 30:1-3 (NLT)
The Lord gave another message to Jeremiah. He said, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Write down for the record everything I have said to you, Jeremiah. For the time is coming when I will restore the fortunes of my people of Israel and Judah. I will bring them home to this land that I gave to their ancestors, and they will possess it again. I, the Lord, have spoken!”

5) Pray - The most important thing you can do to protect your faith is to pray. Prayer is simply communicating with God. God wants us to come to him with confidence. We can be confident when we pray God's Word. He hears us and He answers.

Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)
16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
1 John 5:14-15 (NLT)
14 And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. 15 And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.

We all have different degrees of challenges in our lives, but one thing we have in common is that we can position ourselves to live a life that is full of faith and not fear. Do what it takes to protect your faith.

Regardless of what you are facing, God is still on the throne. He loves us and His plan for us is good. With what our country is currently facing, people are affected physically, emotionally, relationally, mentally, financially, and spiritually. The world needs more of Jesus. He is the solution. The amazing thing is that we not only have the solution, but know Him personally.

Protecting our faith is important because the world needs us. In a world of chaos, God needs us to step up. It's time for us to stop standing on the sidelines and get involved by spreading faith over fear. Go out and be the LIGHT!
