"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. — Psalm 139:14 (NIV)
In a world that often rewards conformity and masks, choosing to show up as your true self is a courageous act of self-love. It’s about recognizing that you have unique gifts and an individual perspective that the world needs. I want you to know today that it’s crucial to love yourself enough to be authentically you and how this authenticity can impact your life and the world around you all for God's kingdom.
"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." — Psalm 139:14 (NIV)
What a powerful verse! It reminds us of how we are all created with intentionality. It tells us that we are each a unique creation, created with care. Having a great revelation of this can empower us to accept and love ourselves as we are without feeling the need to conform to the expectations of culture and other people. And it's worth saying that sometimes those expectations are unrealistic or even go against what God is requiring of us.
Understanding that you are “fearfully and wonderfully made” changes the way you view yourself and your worth. Think about the freedom that comes with believing that God created you with a unique purpose in mind.
What does it mean for you to live a life where you are embracing and expressing who God created you to be?
1. Recognizing Your Worth
The first step in showing up as your true self is to recognize your intrinsic worth. You are valuable not because of what you do or what you have but because of who you are. Embrace this truth and let it boost your confidence to express your authentic self.
2. Overcoming the Fear of Judgment
One of the biggest hurdles to living authentically is the fear of how others will react. It’s important to remember that your worth isn’t determined by others’ opinions. Practice being true to yourself in small, manageable ways and gradually increase your openness as your confidence grows.
3. Sharing your Unique Qualities with the World
Every individual has something valuable to offer the world. Identify your strengths and passions, and look for opportunities to share them with others. Whether it’s through creative expression, community service, or leadership, find ways to contribute authentically.
4. Foster Self-Compassion
Being true to yourself also means being kind to yourself. Practice self-compassion by speaking to yourself with love and understanding, especially when you make mistakes or face rejection. Self-compassion reinforces self-acceptance, which is key to authenticity.
The call to be real and authentic is echoed throughout the Bible. Here are a few scriptures to read and journal this week: Ephesians 2:10, 1 Samuel 16:7, Romans 12:2
Reflect on these scriptures and think about how you can apply them to your life. Consider how aligning your daily actions with your God-given nature can transform how you feel about yourself and interact with the world. Ask yourself these questions:
1. What are some qualities or passions that make you uniquely you?
2. How can you begin to overcome the fear of judgment to more freely express your true self?
3. What is one way you can start offering your unique qualities to your community or workplace?
Answer these questions without judgment. Celebrate who you are and how God designed you. I want to challenge you to commit to having a moment this week where you will be completely honest about your feelings or opinions in a conversation. There is freedom in being YOU!
Dear God, help us to see ourselves as you see us: unique, valuable, and wonderfully made. Give us the strength to overcome our fears of judgment and the courage to live authentically. May our lives reflect Your love and truth. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
By choosing to love yourself enough to be authentic, you honor the unique person God created you to be. This not only leads to a more fulfilling life for yourself but also enriches the world with your unique presence and contributions.
