Leaning on God’s Wisdom When You Make Decisions

"If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.— James 1:5 (NLT)

Making decisions, big or small, is a huge part of our everyday life. From career choices to family matters, every decision carries a potential impact on our lives. As believers, we have the unique advantage of accessing divine wisdom, which can light up our paths and guide us toward decisions that not only benefit us, but also glorify God. Let's explore how to lean on God’s wisdom in our decision-making process, so our choices align with His will.

"If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking."— James 1:5 (NLT)

I love that God is willing and eager to provide us with the wisdom we need. It encourages us to actively seek divine insight, especially when faced with difficult choices. Let's take Him up on this offer and seek His wisdom. When we make decisions based on God’s wisdom, we put ourselves in a position where our choices are not merely good or beneficial but pleasing to God and full of faith. This reliance on God's guidance also helps us avoid the pitfalls of our limited human understanding.

How to Incorporate God’s Wisdom in Decision Making:

1. Pray for Clarity

Before making any decision, big or small, begin with prayer. Ask God to clear your mind of any preconceived ideas or desires that might cloud your judgment and to fill it with His wisdom. Prayer centers your mind on God’s presence, reducing anxiety and increasing your receptiveness to His guidance.

2. Go to the Word

Look for biblical principles or stories that relate to the decision you need to make. Scripture can offer timeless wisdom and examples that illuminate the right path forward. Aligning your decisions with the Word keeps your choices grounded in God’s wisdom, not ever-changing human trends.

3. Seek Godly Counsel

Discuss your options with trusted spiritual leaders or mentors who can provide insight based on their own experiences of faith-led decision-making. Receiving counsel from those who also seek God’s wisdom provides new perspectives and reinforces your understanding.

4. Watch for God’s Confirmation

As you move closer to making a decision, look for signs of God’s confirmation in your life, such as a sense of peace, unexpected opportunities, or sound advice from someone you trust. God's confirmation gives us confidence that we are making a wise choice in alignment with God’s will.

I want to encourage you to apply divine wisdom in every area of your life. Let His wisdom guide your decisions. If you are currently making a decision, how can you actively seek His guidance? Write down a decision you’re currently facing and list out the ways you can seek God’s wisdom as mentioned above. You can even take it a step further and commit to discussing this decision with a spiritual mentor within the next week.

Dear God, we ask you to bless us with your wisdom as we face the various decisions in our lives. Help us to recognize your voice, follow your guidance, and make choices that glorify you and benefit those around us. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

By consistently seeking God’s wisdom in our decisions, we not only navigate life with more confidence but also deepen our relationship with God, learning to trust Him more completely with every choice we make.
