"You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.’" – 2 Chronicles 20:17 (NIV)
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” - James 1:2-4
The word “consider” is a verb, meaning we have to do something. We can’t just sit in the middle of a trial and do nothing. God knew the trials we would face so He provided instructions on how to persevere, we just have to “consider it pure joy.” Simple, right?
When trials came for me, everything about me would change. I would go into fix mode, freaking out, overreacting, and basically be in the way of God’s plan. I allowed my circumstances to feed my emotions, rather than feeding my faith into my circumstances.
My life is currently in an upheaval, with so many things to worry about, stress over, and reasons to just be angry. My flesh wants me to bring out my poor attitude, allowing the trials to change who I am, but I am NOT that person anymore.
As a Christian, my purpose is to show the world that even when my heart is breaking, and my tears are flowing, my faith is guiding me to the joy that is Jesus Christ. God wants all of us to persevere, finish strong, and be mature. God doesn’t want us to merely survive this world but He wants us to thrive in it.
I can assure you, that when trials had come my way, not once did I consider finding joy. What God has shown me is that heartbreak and joy are not mutually exclusive, they can share the same space. 2 Corinthians 6:10a says, “sorrowful, yet always rejoicing;”
My encouragement to you today is this: Be joyful, and draw strength from God, the battle belongs to the Lord!!
“You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.’ ” - 2 Chronicles 20:17 (NIV)
