3 Things I Learned When I Said Yes to God

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

Saying “yes” to God can feel risky. You might not have all the answers, the timing may feel inconvenient, and your comfort zone will absolutely be challenged.

But here’s what I’ve learned: Saying yes to God is where transformation happens. It’s where spiritual growth, divine direction, and unexpected impact begin to unfold.

If you’re on the edge of obedience, wondering if your “yes” really matters, this is for you.

Here are three things I’ve discovered since saying yes to God:

1. Saying Yes Brings Stretching, But Also Spiritual Growth

When you say yes, you will be stretched. God will lead you beyond what’s comfortable into what’s purposeful. But in that stretching, your faith deepens. You start depending on God more than your own strength, and that’s where real spiritual growth begins.

“Consider it pure joy… whenever you face trials… because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” — James 1:2–3 (NIV)

Your yes will stretch you—but it will never break you. It will build you.

2. God Doesn’t Give the Full Plan—Just the Next Step

God rarely reveals the whole picture. He gives you just enough light to take the next step. It’s frustrating sometimes, but it’s also freeing. Because you don’t have to figure out everything—you just need to follow Him faithfully.

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” — Psalm 119:105 (NIV)

Obedience is a journey of trust, not a roadmap of control.

3. Your Yes Blesses Others

Here’s what humbled me most: My yes wasn’t just about me. God used my obedience to encourage someone else. To open doors. To answer a prayer, I didn’t even know they prayed. Your yes has ripple effects in the Kingdom. Your breakthrough becomes someone else’s encouragement. Your surrender becomes someone else’s blessing.

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16 (NIV)

Pray This Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for inviting me into what you’re doing. Even when it’s uncomfortable or unclear, help me trust you fully. Stretch me. Grow me. Use me. Let my yes bring you glory and bring others hope. I submit every step to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Remember:

Your yes is powerful. Even when you don’t understand it, even when it’s hard. God honors obedience—and multiplies it.

Say this out loud today:

“My yes matters. My next step is in God’s hands. And I trust Him completely.”

You don’t have to see the whole path to take one faithful step.

And that step? It might just change everything.
