The Best Advice I Would Give My Former Self

“If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.” — Isaiah 1:19 (NIV)

If I could sit across the table from the younger version of me — the one filled with dreams but paralyzed by doubt — I’d gently reach for her hand and whisper:
“Obey quickly. God can do more with your yes than you could ever do with your plan.”
I’ve learned that obedience isn’t just about doing what God says — it’s about doing it when He says it. There were so many moments I delayed obedience because I was waiting for clarity, confidence, or control. I thought I needed to see the full path before I could take the first step.
But here’s what I now know to be true:
Obedience in motion unlocks Kingdom momentum.
God never asked me to have it all figured out. He just asked me to trust Him.
✨ Scriptures That Changed How I View Obedience
1. Luke 11:28 (NIV)
“Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
Obedience is where the blessing is. It’s not in the hearing alone. It’s in the doing — even when it’s scary, inconvenient, or unclear.
2. Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”
Trying to make sense of everything before moving delayed me. Now, I’ve learned to move with God even if I don’t fully understand the next step.
3. James 1:22 (NLT)
“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.”
There’s a difference between knowing and doing. Real transformation begins when you walk out what you’ve been taught.
4. Isaiah 1:19 (NIV)
“If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.”
Obedience isn’t about perfection — it’s about posture. Am I willing? Am I obedient? That’s what unlocks God’s best.
🔄 Rhythm Shifts: Obedience in Motion
When God gives you an assignment, the key isn’t just hearing it — it’s adjusting your rhythm to carry it out. Obedience becomes easier when it’s woven into how you live, not just how you think.
Here are 3 rhythm shifts to help you live out obedience in motion:
1. Shift from Pausing to Pursuing
Start your day with a posture of readiness. Instead of waiting for the “perfect moment,” practice saying yes quickly. Build a rhythm of asking, “Lord, what would You have me build today?” — and move toward it with trust.
2. Shift from Fear to Forward
Fear thrives in stillness, but faith grows in movement. Create a rhythm where fear doesn’t get to be the loudest voice. Speak declarations, journal through your hesitations, and take one small, obedient step daily — even if it’s imperfect.
3. Shift from Isolation to Intentional Community
Obedience flourishes in healthy environments. Surround yourself with women who are also building in faith. Make room in your weekly rhythm to check in, share your progress, and be encouraged — accountability creates momentum.
Pray This Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for being so patient with me in the seasons where I hesitated. Help me to obey you quickly and fully — even when I don’t have all the details. Teach me to trust your voice above my fear and your timing above my own. May I be a woman who moves with boldness, built on faith and rooted in your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Remember:
Delayed obedience is still disobedience — but God’s mercy meets you the moment you move.
Say this out loud today:
“I say yes to what God is calling me to do — even if I feel unsure, because I trust the One who called me.”
You don’t have to feel fully ready to be fully obedient. God will strengthen you as you step — your yes activates His next.
If you’ve been feeling the nudge to finally take action on what God placed in your heart — but fear, overwhelm, or confusion has been keeping you still — I want to personally invite you to something special.
